Hi! I am Rebecca Tan, an aspiring composer currently under the tutelage of Dr. Zechariah Goh.

Rebecca is an aspiring composer who is currently studying at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She was exposed to Classical music from a young age, oftentimes listening to different genres and forms of works on radio. Chinese Traditional music was also a huge part of her life because of her Grandfather, who had introduced the genre to her. This led to her picking up the piano at the tender age of 5, and later on joining the Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School (Primary)'s Guzheng Ensemble at age 7, where she first starting honing chamber skills. She also later on went to join the Concert Wind Band of Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC), and with that experience, participated in NAFA's Wind Band as well.

Music is something Rebecca has been actively involved with throughout her life in formal education. She opted to sit for both Normal and Higher 'O' Level Music examinations, and subsequently H3 Music Elective Programme (MEP) in Junior College. Through this, she built up knowledge on many aspects of Music Theory, and acquired the basic skills needed for research.

It was in Secondary School that she first ventured into Music Composition, writing three works for various instrumentations. She had no prior compositional training, and composed primarily based on replicating characteristics of genres she liked, as well as her understanding of Functional Harmony. Her comprehension of her own personal process of composition first developed only in Junior College, in the Free Composition segment of her examinations, where she ventured into more complicated harmony, texture and instrumental timbre.

Rebecca then pursued formal Compositional training in NAFA under the guidance of Dr. Zechariah Goh, where she honed her research skills and critical thinking. Her early works include Cellopiction, GJ 1214b, Affictitious Placidity, Incongruous, and Under the Stars of Fort Canning Park. She also experienced working with a Sequencer, producing a backing track to a Dance video using Logic Pro X.
